To Yield a Hundredfold

Look what God has done in a dark and broken world, he is authoring and orchestrating a stunning movement among traditional, oral cultures. One may be surprised to learn what is working and what has reproduced organically in recent years. Using the simplest of tools and small teams like Jesus sent out, local church planters are reaching villages, towns, and neighborhoods for Christ across the continents. Jesus said in Matthew 13:23:

“As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty and in another thirty.”

The essence here is this: He who understands will bear fruit. In other words, Jesus says, what works strategically, what reproduces fruit, is an audience that understands. In order to understand, it is best for people to hear the message in their native language, through learning styles they respond to, via cultural arts that speak to their heart, through a spoken Word that is alive.

The Need is Great

As people of Jesus, we must stay focused on the last frontier. Jesus gave us a model. It remains for us to respond. Conservative estimates show over four billion people are oral preference learners representing the least reached and unengaged people groups across the globe. Multitudes have yet to hear and understand the Word of God. Billions still live-in darkness. Current estimates reveal that only 5% of fielded Christian missionaries are reaching the unreached. Is it effective when the modern missions movement is still spending billions on the most reached countries/people groups? Why not start working intentionally among the least reached.  The key is training for the thousands of non-Western missionaries who have already responded to the Great Commission. They are the future; through them God is multiplying his message today. For us there is no greater joy than being in the center of what God is doing.

Is He Calling You?

Is God calling you to train and coach brothers and sisters around the world in the SIU Bridges to Oral Cultures strategy? Would you or someone you know consider being equipped to serve and train national missionaries? As God’s heart for the nations inspires you, pray for His discernment, direction and calling in your life. What is the fruit of this movement? The Kingdom of Jesus Christ changing hearts, families and communities in the most difficult places in the world.

Jesus said, Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Matt. 9:38) There has never been a time such as this. And the world has never had a greater need to hear the life changing message of the Gospel. Having formerly been an SIU missionary for 12 years, I can speak from personal experience when I say the rewards for such service are truly immeasurable. It is an amazing opportunity that will not only change the lives you will be able to touch, but will also radically change yours as well. I encourage anyone who senses the Holy Spirit leading you toward missions to please prayerfully consider this challenging but incredibly rewarding Kingdom call.

Kent has a heart and passion for “reaching the unreached” and believes strongly that the oral arts, communication bridges training approach designed specifically for the indigenous men and women of peace around the world is one of the most effective means to reach the nations with the Gospel.

Kent is widowed after his wife Melissa (“Missy”) was promoted into Glory in November 2021 after a 14-year battle with Parkinsons Disease, and has four children (all college age young adults).
