Faithful, Courageous Women in Africa

We are seeing great growth through women in the Bridges networks across all our partnerships in Africa. Many are using SIU’s “Bridges for Women” curriculum and strategy to train women to share Bible stories with others in their lives. This approach allows them access to difficult areas as women do life with each other and share scripture stories. Other times, women are engaged in equipping church plant teams through Bridges and Bridges for Neighbors trainings.

Fearless Faith and Wise Counsel

In Kenya, one faithful sister fearlessly disciples believers along the Swahili Coast. House churches throughout the area look to her for wisdom and encouragement. She is training new leaders and equipping them to engage in new areas. In a region known for hostility, especially towards Christians, her fearless faith and wise counsel are invaluable to the growth of the movements among four unreached people groups. Our sister not only trains others to go and share, she also regularly practices storytelling herself, encouraging believers and introducing others to Jesus and God’s great story.

One day this sister met some fishermen from Tanzania. They had come north along the coast and docked their boats near where she was leading a Bridges training event. After meeting them, our sister started telling scripture stories and sharing about what she did. As she was connecting with them and sharing stories, she invited the fishermen to join the training. While they were at the training, the team shared many scripture stories with the fishermen and spent time discussing God and faith. The fishermen, in return, invited our sister to come visit their villages and share the stories with their families. She hopes to be able to make this trip when funding is available to cover the boat trip south along the coast. Through her bold, faithful engagement, many doors continue to open.

In cultures where men are depended upon to make decisions, God has given this sister great favor. Many look to her for wisdom and insight. She is known for encouraging existing believers as well as engaging those who do not yet know Jesus. Through her faithful investment, the kingdom is moving forward in hard-to-reach places.

Your Help is Needed

We would like to continue providing training opportunities for this faithful, courageous woman, and all our proven women leaders and trainers in Africa, as they train, teach, and raise up more women leaders.

It takes approx. $3,000 dollars (USD) to hold a “Bridges for Women” training event for 25-30 Indigenous, grassroots participants. These training participants will experience a 3-day, 4-day, or 5-day training event that equips them with the tools to become disciple makers and church-planters in their own language and culture. Some will immediately run back to their homes, towns, and villages, excited to share the Bible stories they have learned with family and friends. Typically within three months, we see at least ten new storytelling groups/house churches and a hundred new believers from just one training event…and it keeps going!
